Tommy Irvin's Biography

His music is a mix of Texas Americana, country, blues, rockabilly, swing, and folk. He'll keep your feet tapping and your body moving. Tommy IrvinHe cut his teeth on the late Johnny Horton's brand of music, and it seems to have rubbed off on the boy. The first music Tommy Irvin probably ever heard was an old Jimmy Driftwood song sung by Johnny Horton. The song is called The Battle of New Orleans.

Yeah, Tommy's mother Paulette would play the thing all day every day, and the young musically inclined Tommy must have been influenced by the Horton style. Tommy started singing, drumming, and playing piano and by age 7 he was performing with a band. Tommy  graduated high school, attended college, but then joined the Army. After regular duty in the Army he went to the Texas Army National Guard. Throughout this time he had been drumming, singing, and learning to play rock and blues and he worked steadily as a drummer for various rock bands in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Tommy moved to Nashville in 1989 and 1990 for a young girl from Texas, and needless to say, she broke his heart. But she left him with some good advice; she told him to give up drumming and start singing because she thought he had a country voice.

As a youngster, Tommy not only listened to Johnny Horton, but also Johnny Cash, Johnny Paycheck, Hank Williams, Hank Snow, Jim Reeves, Hank Thompson, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Little Jimmy Dickens, Buck Owens, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, Faron Young and Roger Miller. Tommy has been influenced by the old school no doubt!  Although rockabilly and country music are his favorite forms of music, he was also influenced by the Blues, Jazz, Classical, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock, and Metal. Tommy Loves Music! He owns part of an independent record label called Honey Creek Records/Major Label Records, Honey River Music Publishing/BMI, and a separate company called Brooke Trail Music Publishing Company/ASCAP.

Tommy is a Texan with his own brand of Texas Music. At age 8, Tommy wrote his first song. He has published over 100 songs, recorded over 200 and has written more than 400 to date.

  • Tommy's first single "That's What Highways Are For" made the top 40 on the Texas Music Chart.
  • Currently his newest single release "Heavy Load of Pain" is being played on Texas radio stations.
  • Tommy has performed in over 30 states as well as in France, Germany and Mexico.

But all aside, Tommy is a musician's musician, and an entertainer's entertainer. He can sing, play guitar, write and has a strong stage presence. Tommy's unique style is quickly becoming popular all over the world.
